Dr. Ashwini Bhalerao-Gandhi is a senior Consultant Gynaecologist in Mumbai since over 30 years. After graduating from Seth G S Medical College and N Wadia Maternity Hospital, she joined T N Medical College and B Y L Nair Hospital in various capacities including Associate Professor and Unit Head over the span of 12 years. She later joined the prestigious P D Hinduja Hospital and Medical Research Centre as a hospital-based Consultant Gynaecologist. She was elected as the National Chairperson of the Adolescent Health Committee of FOGSI from 2008 to 2012. She was the President of the Mumbai Obst. and Gynec Society in the year 2012–2013. She worked as the Vice Chairman of the 56th AICOG which was organised in Mumbai in January 2013. She was installed as the Vice President of FOGSI for the year 2013 at this AICOG. She is instrumental in starting ‘First Indian Vulva Clinic’ at P D Hinduja Hospital, Mumbai. At present, she is working as the secretary of the Journal of Obst and Gynec of India. Also she is serving as the President of Mumbai Menopause Society for the years 2019–2021.


This concise book entitled ‘1000 Multiple Choice Questions on Menopause’ covers basics as well as latest advances in management of menopause. The editorial team of Dr. Suvarna Khadilkar, Dr. Seema Sharma and Dr. Punit Bhojani have combined their expertise to compile 1000 multiple choice questions and their answers. Various chapters are contributed by renowned experts from all over India. This unique book offers extensive coverage related to physiology, pathology, diagnostic modalities as well as therapeutics related to menopausal medicine.

The Editor Dr. Suvarna Khadilkar has a long track record of academic activities, teaching and training as well as some of the extraordinary publications and articles to her credit. The book contains total 53 chapters varying from physiology of menopause, demographics, Types of Menopause, Investigations, Diet, Exercise, Sexuality, Fertility issues at Menopause, Contraception, Menopausal Hormone therapy, SERMS, Alternate Therapy, Menopause and Cancer, Sarcopenia, AUB, Hysterectomy, Oophorectomy, Genito Urinary issues, etc., all under one umbrella. These issues are covered in the form of multiple choice questions and answers.

The highlight of the book is that various case scenarios related to Menopause Management, Osteoporosis, AUB, Urinary Incontinence, Genital prolapse are dealt with in a novel way. The suggested reading is a welcome feature especially for those who need a further in-depth knowledge of a topic. Case scenarios pinpoint the best real-world strategies. In preface, Dr. Suvarna mentions that ‘Practising menopausal Medicine needs updating of knowledge from time to time as the recent literature has revolutionized many concepts. The UG and PG students of today face several hurdles to clear by way of entrance exams, which are in the format of MCQS, enabling objective assessment.
