Book Review for Prof. Hiralal Konar’s DC Dutta’s Clinics in Gynecology

Clinics in Gynecology is an up-to-date comprehensive review in the Gynecology, focusing mostly on current progress in science and technology. We know, presently the doubling time of medical knowledge has been reduced to a few months only. This book covers comprehensively the subject of Gynecology in nine sections. Each section has got a good number of chapters for discussion. Otherwise, this book is a comprehensive review of the most subspecialties in gynaecology. Each section contains good number of chapters in an attempt to cover the entire subject of Gynecology. Total chapters discussed are: Sixty-two (62). The subjects covered are selective. Starting from General Gynecology, Reproductive Endocrinology, Infertility and Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART), Advances in Contraceptions, Discussion on the areas of fertility preservation in respect to Gynecological cancers, and Operative Gynecology are incorporated. The basic principles in the newer areas like surgical approach in Endoscopic and Robotic surgery and Interventional radiology in gynecology are well covered. Section 7—Covers: Sepsis in Gynecology, Sect. 8, is the practice area for SBAS and Extended Matching Question’s (EMQs), Sect. 9, is very uncommon and has not been seen in any other book as yet. It covers history in Obstetrics and Gynecology. I feel, this chapter is important for all of us. We must know the giants of science upon whose shoulders we stand today.

The text reading and flow are pleasant, Content is very informative and at the same time concise. Moreover, it could be reproduced easily at the time of examination. Numerous sketches, clinical photos, operative figures, boxes, flow charts, and tables are incorporated.

The presentation is unlike that of a textbook. Model answers are framed in a concise and structured format. Overall, I recommend this book for all categories of medical students, residents and the specialists in the profession.
