About the Reviewer

Dr. Garima Kachhawa is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in Delhi for over 15 years. At present, she is working as Assistant Professor at the Premiere Institute of India, prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. She has several publications in various national and international journals to her credit. She has been awarded 18 national awards, including Dr. Siuli Rudra Sinha Prize by FOGSI. Her field of interest is endoscopy and reproductive endocrinology.

Through the recent years, the medical science has evolved from clinical cure to prevention.

Endocrinology is a very complex subject, and the interpretation of interplay of hormones is quite complex and needs detailed information about both basic physiology and clinical significance.

This book presents a thorough insight into the female endocrine system ranging from normal physiology to deviations with diagnostic approaches and test procedures. The book has comprehensively reviewed all endocrine diagnostic tests and their interpretation used for diagnosis of paediatric endocrine disorders.

The current first edition is extensively contributed by 68 distinguished contributors from all over the country and abroad as well, and each recognized as an expert in his or her field.

The book is divided into two parts: part 1 Frontiers in Endocrinology discusses basics in endocrinology with detailed description of different glands, and part 2 pertains to endocrinology in clinical practice and is spread over 8 sections. The chapters span the life of a woman from sexual deviations to puberty, pregnancy and menopause.

Another important feature is a chapter on Hormones and Cancer which is the need of the day as more and more patients are surviving the fight against cancer.

The organization of chapters is user-friendly. All chapters start with introduction of the topic followed by brief summary of disease state and list of tests to assess endocrine function with explanation of physiological basis. The interpretation of diagnostic tests and factors affecting the results of these tests are given in text in a nice way, supported by illustrations, graphs and schematic diagrams.

The book comprehensively covers all aspects of the female endocrinology and its deviation from normal with practical tips regarding approach in evaluation and management.

I congratulate the editor, Dr. Prof Suvarna Khadilkar, for bringing out an excellent and comprehensive book on this topic, and I am sure this will become a very handy reference book for practising gynaecologists and postgraduates. The obstetricians and gynaecologists will also find this book very useful for updating their knowledge of endocrine diagnostic evaluation.
